Can't catch a break!
Geez, its one thing after another with this truck... Okay, so before I did the timing belt, the truck sat because it would bog down really badly. If you give it any kind of gas the truck just does not want to go anywhere. After driving it around, i think i have made a correlation: The gauge will be at normal, then suddenly spike up all the way to hot. (The only reason i know its not overheating is because it did this with the engine only being on for 5 minutes, i could put and hold my hand on both the radiator and upper hose) Anyways, after the gauge has been pegged for a minute or so, the ECM will think the truck is burning up, and it sends the truck into limp mode. I know there are two sensors for the temp gauge and ecm, which one is the one for the ecm? Thanks again guys!

Just what vehicle are you working on??
That might get more to respond to your question.
Are you having your MIL lite and what code or codes are you reading
If this is the 3.4 the coolant temp sensor is located on the front of the engine behind the timing belt cover under the fuel cross over pipe

whoops, sorry its the tacoma in my sig! No MIL, no codes whatsoever!
I thought this was the coolant sensor... apparently not, so what is it? (center of pic, in between hose and oil filter)
(same sensor, right above oil filter)
Whatever it is, its drenched in old coolant, so i thought that was why the truck keeps bogging down and going into safe mode. Guess not. And i'm still leaking coolant from somewhere. great.

Coolant leaking from the oil cooler hose?
Have you topped the radiator off with coolant after the TB job? I always fill the block through the upper radiator hose after a TB change or radiator flush. You just may have an air pocket in the system.

RW, i replaced the thermostat and gasket when i did the timing belt. I did notice something strange, the top hose was hot, the radiator itself was luke warm, and the bottom hose was cold, so i think i have a bad thermostat, or clog in the radiator.
