can you flat tow a 1996 4runner 5spd 4wd
Hello all,
I am looking at towing my 1996 4runner with my RV. I was given a tow bar, but I am not sure if I would damage my 4runner if I "flat" towed it (ie: on its 4 wheels instead of on a trailer). It is a 5spd manual and 4wd.
I was thinking that putting the transfer case in neutral and the tranny in neutral would be enough to keep from damaging the drive train.
Does anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks,
Todd

Good call
Anyways, I looked "flat towing" up in our owner's manual, and they didn't really address all 4 wheels, but did address towing from the front or rear. Essentially they said 4 things:
1. Key in and to ACC.
2. Parking brake off.
3. Tranny in Neutral.
4. Transfer case in H2 (this was a little surprising).
Anyways, I think it can be done.
Does anyone have experience doing this?
Thanks,
Todd
