Can waterpump failure screw with the 3,0s timing?
I still have a few engine issues.
Does anybody know if waterpump failure can mess with the 3.0s timing causing stumbling while accelerating?
I also have a metalic grinding/rapping noise if that helps. Thanks,
Lamm

Only if it's catastrophic failure...such as the waterpump drive pulley falling off. Although, if you replaced the waterpump without retiming the cams, you're asking for trouble. You can do it yourself if you're fairly good with a wrench. Just make sure you use a NEW TOYOTA cam belt. I tried an aftermarket one and had problems..the factory belt fits and lines up like it was made correctly.

I was wrong, the whole thing turned out to be the tensioner pully in the timing belt area. The bearings in it siezed and blew up, it also took 1/4" off the timing belt. Sucks, now I gotta go pay up at the garage.

You might as well do it right...you already have to replace the tensioner and the timing belt. Replace the top idler pulley, water pump and possibly even the front main bearing seal. Then you know the front end of the engine is in good shape.
Incidentally, you can do all this yourself. There are some write-ups on the process on the web. Just take your time, as you remove parts and fasteners, label them or put them in labeled ziplock bags. You'll save a bundle. Yes, it is a chore, but it doesn't take any specialized tools (unless your crank pulley is rusted on).

Well, the idler has less than 3000 miles on it. As far as the other stuff goes there is now a new belt and tensioner. Its too late to do it myself but when my waterpump goes I will be doing it all myself. Thanks for the tips,
