Can't Shut Off My Car Alarm - Help!!

I don't know much about car alarms, but I had to leave my 4runner in a parking lot last night because I couldn't disarm the alarm. It turns off by itself, after a minute, but the engine won't fire.

Is there a fuse that I can pull to disable the alarm? If I disconnect the battery and reconnect, will that work?

I also can't find the swith inside the car (installed by 1st owner).

Many thanks

No, you need to disarm using the remote or remove the alarm completely.
If it were that easy, thieves would have a field day.

If you disconnect the battery and then reconnect it, it will only sound the alarm again. You need to find the switch(button) and hold it down for 3 second then start it. It will reset the alarm and it should be ok.

On some alarms (like mine) there is a certain number of times in which you have to press the valet button. Like a secret code.
Try on your kick panel, or below your driver's dash for the button.

Just unplug the alarm's harness.

You could always do what we did in the shop. We would specifically tell an owner to disable any alarms before any work. We'd still have a few that would go of. You know how loud an alarm is in a confined space? A pair of wire clippers took care of it every time

PBR:

if you have the stock toyota alarm like the rs3000, just pull the harness out of the brain unit: http://www.4runners.org/articles/rs3000

i spilled some water on mine which caused it to blare without stopping. i pulled the harness and all was ok. i could not open the doors w/ the remote and had to use the key. big deal.

did you spill water on yours too?

That may silence the alarm, but the vehicle still won't start!
