Can I use a MSD 6?
I've got a 98 taco with 83,000 miles and want to find more power. I already have exhaust (including downey header) and intake. Can I run a MSD 6 system with my 2.7? Thanks

you can, however don't be surprised if you aren't getting all the power out of it you are expecting.... the reason being the stock ignition is pretty good and not a weak point of the vehicle.... might want to look into a cam or a computer controller for more performance

you probably won't gain any power with the MSD system. as jim said, toyota's ignition really is a good design. are you running oversized tires? regearing will make the biggest difference in power.
for engine mods, all there really is left to do is head porting and polishing, and maybe a set of performance cams.

Best bang for the buck would be a S/C for that motor (I am pretty sure they make one for the 2.4L).
Other cheap stuff includes opening up the airbox (deckplate), amsoil air filter, headers (you did already), high flow cat, etc.

The motor in my truck is the 2.7, and it hasn't had a tuneup in about 50k. I'm running 31x10.5 BFG ATs. A few of you mentioned swapping cams and or computer mods. Who sells these and where can I find them? Also, any clue as to how much the cam swap would set me back? Thanks again.

changing gears will be the best bang for the buck.... seriously.....
an electric fan will help maybe a few hp, but thats it, pullies if they are even made for the 2.7 might help out hp a bit, but to push 33s you need torque, there is no substitute for it...... gearing is the best bet

I just have simple bolt on's and I push 33x10.50's very easily w/ 4.10's. The 2.7 3RZ really wakes up when it's able to breath freely. My runner now is faster w/ the 33's than stock w/ the 31's. Some engines respond well to bolt on's. Gears are a quick way to regain lost power or just use more, but are not always the answer. If he is concerned about gas milage than gears are the wrong way to go. Simple bolt on's will improve mpg and give good power. Stuff like the e-fan will barely give better hp, but will give better mpg #'s and reduce strain on the water pump. Just remember there are different angles to look from when modifying a vehicle.

you need the DIS digital MSD
I use MSD in everything about to wire one up for my 3.4 liter
they work great and in the many drag race applications I have used them for, usually pick up 2 tenths in the quarter
def will pull harder, especially at the higher RPMS

If you do decide to try the ignition route, check into Ignition Systems as well. I've been running their Plasma Booster on a 3.4L for a while with good results.
But... All the other folks have better ideas.. there are better things to spend money on at this point.
