Theoretically, it sounds possible. Bridge the front and rear left side channels, then the front and rear right side channels to double the output power. Or would this screw something up. The only thing I can think it'd mess up is if you tried to use the fader, something might go wrong. Should I do this or not?

NO!!! DONT DO IT!!!! The front and rear are typically derived from the same set of chips or outputs. You have a left channel thats split between front and rear and a right thats split. Most bridgeing will take place between the left and right and will make a single mono channel. Now if you have a discreet 4 channel amp, each channel has its own input like in a car amp, it is more likely that it can be bridged, but the amp has to be designed in such a way that will allow bridging. Not all amps are.

Basically what williemon said. Just buy a small amp that puts out more power than your receiver. If you bridge your receiver you will fry it!! Amps that are made to be bridged usually run at 2-4 Ohm's stable, who knows what you will get out of your receiver, and how stable it will be.

Agreed! Bridge most amps you can, bridge head unit you cannot unless you like lots of that sweet acrid smelling smoke that reaks of electrolytic capacitors and of mosfets melting....

Amps are the way to go, I hate decks that have an on board amp.... Go eclipse 5504!

ps - does anyone else here love to plug small, cheap speakers into the wall to watch them die a horrible death from ~3kw @ 60 cycles?

I knew I was going out on a limb by asking that question... but oh well. I guess I'll get a small amp. I already have a receiver that I'm happy with... I guess it's amp just won't be used anymore. I'll probably go with a Rockford Fosgate 150 or 200 watt amp, as it's just for 2 sets of component speakers.
