Save your money, if they want your rig they will take it no matter what alarm you have.

But if you want one for convience (keyless entry), I heard some good things about Viper and DEI alarms...

They stole your alarm? I take it that you had it sitting out of the truck?

I just went through the Car Alarm research and ended up buying one from Command Car Alarms: http://www.commandocaralarms.com/

GREAT people to deal with and I love having extras like remote start and open functions that I can assign to anything.

More words are towards the bottom of this page:

I agree with Ben though... If you're buying an alarm to stop the truck from being stolen, don't bother. If you like things like remote door locks, remote start, power windows, etc. then it's worthwhile.

Look into a two way system. That way when your alarm goes off and your not right nearby to hear it, you will get a "page" from your remote. Thus allowing you to go outside a re-edumacate the low-life messing with your ride.

I have my alarm on silent and use the pagers abilities to scare would be tamperers.

I get people testing my door handles all the time or attempting to steal my spare from my tire carrier (it's padlocked anyways...you just cant see it under the centrecap.)

Smith & Wesson seems to make very high quality car alarms that double as home alarms and best of all personal protection. I think it is Model 357 but make sure and get the nice add-ons such as the hollow points and speed loaders.

I have the Predator 3901. I also had my power windows hooked up so I can drop em or roll em up with the remote as well as door locks, stereo and lights.

It has 3000' guaranteed range and has the ability for remote start on a automatic transmission (mines standard...doh.)

Look into that model or the Viper 791XV. That kicks ass but is a combo unit for auto trannies only though.

Do you mean a real _page_, (like calling a pager) or a 2-way system that's good to about 1800-2500' depending on the terrain?

The one I talked about in the previous message is a 2-way system:

http://www.commandocaralarms.com/ite...ProductID=1185

It'll tell me a number of things based on a real response from the vehicle, not just an assumption because you pushed a button:
  • Armed or Disarmed
  • Shock sensor triggered
  • Lights triggered (like someone jiggling the handles)
  • Ignition on
  • Truck running
  • Temperature in truck
  • And a couple of more things...
This one will work to _at least_ 1/2 mile:

If you're talking about really dialing a pager, then those can get expensive. You're basically buying a cellphone for your car alarm. You have to pay for the service on a monthly basis (like OnStar).

I recently got a Prestige alarm after my "stockish" silencer crap went out.

I don't really see the need for an LCD pager, plus they're huge.

My alarm seems to be great:
Shock sensor
Domelight supervision
Engine immobilizer(great feature)
super LOUD siren
Upgradeable to remote start
Many, many user selectable options!

Hope this helps. If you need the install chart for all of the wires in your truck , let me know I have a compleet book on all cars..
