Camper Cover Clamps??

Hello all,

What do you guys use for camper cover clamps? I can't really find anything specifically made for the Tacoma online. Mine is a 1999 if that makes a difference.

I have a set of 4 clamps right now, they are two C shaped clamps with a bolt connecting the two. I've found that if I tighten them the clamps will bend, I don't think this is a good thing. Two of my clamps are bent pretty bad due to this, I just don't feel they get tight enough without them bending a little.

The ones I currently have look like this...

Thanks!!!

I had the same ones and if you over tighten them you'll be sorry. Just tighten them all down enough so it won't move and don't worry about it flexing, mine did that also. I never had any issues with mine and was very glad I bought them. My .02

You could try this if the taco box has stake holes you can access from below/inside the box.

Mark the location of the stake pockets on the sill of the topper drill a 1/4" or 3/8" hole in the centre of the marked area [or to give yourself a little more room just slightly inboard of the centre. Next cut a piece of 1" flat stock or 1" angle iron into 4"-5" segments [1 per stake pocket] and drill and tap these in the centre for a 1/4-20 or 3/8 bolt. Put new topper gap seal tape on the bottom of the sill and place the topper in position and using the plates bolt it down using thread locker [242 should be strong enough]. For extra finish protection put some of the gap seal tape on the top side of the threaded plate to prevent chafing and reduce rattles.
This will give you a very secure top and a cleaner interior finish as well.

If the taco does'nt have stake holes and you're brave enough drill the holes in the sill plate, place the topper on the truck and mark the hole locations on the top of the box. Lift off the topper, drill out the holes in the top edge and go from there.

Hope this helped aviator
