calling about new diffs today - double check specs
I'm going to call Randy's Ring and Pinion today for a quote on new diffs for my rig. Just to double check before I call, the rear is a 8", right? The front is the V6 IFS, right? Isn't the rear reverse cut?
What is a hi-pinion diff? Anything else I should know before I call?
BTW... getting a quote for 4.56s and ARBs front and rear.

Front 7.5" Tacoma/Tundra reverse cut.
Rear 8" V6
I wouold go with 4.88's and step up to 33's. You will someday anyway. Re-Gear once and plan for the future. You will not be able to tell the difference between 4.56 and 4.88 anyway. With the Auto, 33's and 4.88 it will be sweet.
I have driven to Colorado twice and to fresno with 5.29's and everything is just fine. 4.88's are your friend.
Also the Off Road Solutions kit not only gives you manual hubs but heat treated stronger outter CV's and center shafts. I spent a few day with the ORS guys and I asked them all the details of the Manual hub kit.
Also with 5.29's I can go to 35's next time. And I will. 315/75/16.

Well, yeah soft of, but it's not really the same. You want to be sure to specify that you have a 4Runner with ADD.
Karlton has a front 2001 Tacoma diff he as been trying to sell for over a year. Should be the same, but remember one was made in America and the other in Japan. Probably different suppliers.
Mark G. has both a 2000 4Runner and 2001 Tacoma, he may be able to better say if the 2 diffs are the same.

Also remember you can't drive it with the alxes out. With the ORS kit you can. Mark G. also has a set of "cut off" axles you can run with the diff out. Since I have met you and know your a good guy, I can refer you, pay shipping both ways and he might loan them to you.

Just got off the phone with Randy's...
$1763 (no core charge) for the rear - that's 4.56s and an ARB
$1329 +$216 core for the front - again, 4.56s and an ARB
I knew it was goign to be expensive, but that's more than I was thinking.

Here's a comparison:
Rear ARB RD08 and Compressor $800
Install with new axle seals, axle bearings, carrier bearings & gaskets $735
This was keeping the stock ring and pinon.
See why I saw 4.88's plan for the future.

Inchworm has a rear 3rd with 4.56s and ARB for $1565. The same with 4.88s is $1575. I am going to call Reider Racing sometime and see what kind of prices they have. They might be someplace else for you to check.

No, I didn't think to ask. I've got a couple of other places to get quotes from as well, so we'll see. Post back what you find out and we'll join our research - see who has the best deal.
