Best I've ever done was about 280 miles on about 14 gallons of gas doing %100 hwy driving. So 20mpg was the best. That's with my 2wd, 31 inch tires and 3.90 rear. Most the time, I go about 220-240 miles on a tank of gas, so usually around 18 I guess. That's about 70% hwy (~60mph) and 30% city.
With my 3.90 rear and 31 inch tires, I'm turning about 1800 rpms at 55 and 2400 at 70mph. Sure is slow though.

That is why I bought a VW fox as a daily driver..34mpg is much better on th wallet.

i'm getting 18 city and 22-23 high way. i was getting 15 city and 19 highway.
i took off the roof rack, put some manual hubs on, i did the air box mod and, i leaned out the VAFM, and i'm doing the Intake Silencer Removal Mod next. I think that if do enough mods i could get her up to 25 highway.

I have a 94 4runner that sits on 33in tires and i get about 200-220 to a tank. it usually breaks down to about 12-14 miles a gallon. mine sucks bad. but hey, its not always the mileage, its about the vehicle you want to drive. im happy. ill bite the bullet.

freshman, I think your gas mileage would be better if it had the stock sized tires on it. Im pretty sure that the auto v6's with 4.56's had the tiny 225/75s or whatever. yota's that came with 31's and an auto had 4.88s. Im in the exact same boat as you, with 31's and 4.56's. My spare is one of the little ones though, so im not running stock sized tires. Your gas mileage is better than mine though, im getting about 13 tops on the highway.

I get about 220 miles to the tankful - no matter what.
I have the 4:56 gears and 31" tires - I would probably do better with 4.88 gears but it ain't to bad. Not gonna change it yet.

12-14 mpg, 4.88's, 33" tires. Drops down to 10.5-12 when they start pumping the winter blend.

Here's one for you guys. Does anyone know of an auxillary fuel tank for 2nd gen 4Runners? I get 220-240 miles to a tank. Would love to go another 140 miles or so.

mine
I get almost 19 on the fwy and not even 16 mixed local/fwy, and I drive slow. 3.0 auto 31x10.5
My '90 Legend gets 24mpg mixed and can pretty easily keep up with most new cars. But of course it is a little lighter and has less rotational mass to spool up. J
