I was driving yesterday and decided to turn on some a/c since i had my little ones in the runner. then i heard this kinda loud screeching noise right after I turned it on then it quit after a few seconds. It did it again like 3 more times. Does it sound like the compressor is on its way out or is there some way of oiling it?

belt squealing during a/c cycles?...the a/c will cycle on and off (not sure about the 3.0's a/c but most vehicles a/c cycles) maybe the belt is squealing on the on cycle? I had a bad belt on my Wrangler and it would squeal when I turned the A/C on....thats why I assumed this...

nah the belts were replaced like 4 months ago. it is an internal noise...some noises ya can tell the difference in a belt and the actual component failing. nah wasn't close to a belt squeel. thanks anyways

I just had the same thing happen to my truck with 235k miles on it. I am pretty sure the clutch on the compressor is shot. Personally I am going to find a refurbed compressor and have mine swapped out.

yeh mine has 217k on it now...as long as it lasts me through the summer then I'm fine with it...but if she goes then I'll replace it! Costly too...
