bypassing fuse box for pos batt. lead?

hey all,
while my motor is out i ran into a small problem (easly fixable probably), for a while before i decided to do the rebuild my truck was giving me electrical problems from some fun down at pismo beach (original owner jerry rigged ALL of his fixes) the positive battery cable that comes from the fuse box was actually 2 wires held together with electrical tape only!. so i fixed it with sauder and shrinkwrap. well ever since then my truck would need a good jiggle every now and then when starting (no power at all, jiggle wire, prob. solved) but that got old. so i was tinkering around a few days ago and the damn wire FELL (no force applied) out of the fuse box!. so i was wondering:

how do i go about completely bypassing the fuse box with a good solidly constructed wire complete with a nice inline fuse?

thanks all!

just go to the batt directly.

or go with this fuse box:
