i currently have a 2001 Z71 silverado and will be purchasing a used 96'ish taco within the next month. not sure what i want, maybe i can get some of your ideas? altho i love the 4x4, honestly, i rarely use it. not entirely sure if i want to get a 4x4 taco and lift it around 4 inches or so with 33's or get a 4x4 and go for the prerunner/desert setup. ive owned several sports car and have def have a lot of racing blood in me........

also, what are some of the changes throughout the years? (pre-96) as far as engine and/or suspension?

what do YOU guys/gals think?

But it's really nice to have when you need it. And by need it I mean when the trails are callin your name. Its always nice to have that low range too.

hehe, you don't think you'll use the 4x4, but once you get it, you will... trust me. plus, it's nice to have every once in awhile when it rains and you're on a hill in traffic..

i don't think it's really necessary if you don't plan on going off-road much. my next(dd) pickup will be a 2wd

I use 4x4 mode whenever the streets are wet. Pulling out into traffic
with only 2 wheels pulling takes verry little effort to spin the wheels
which is NOT what you want when there is someone bearing down on
you at high speed. With the Taco back end being so light I have pretty
poor traction on wet roads in 2WD. 4WD makes all the difference in the
world.

nahh...i'd rather have a 2wd for a daily driver pickup...less weight and better mileage

Even if you rarely will use it in 4WD, consider the resale value. I have little doubt that you'll kick yourself at some point if you didn't get the 4X4.
