which brush guard???

Hey everyone.........I'm trying to decide whether to leave the truck as is, with the new wheels and exhaust, or add a brush guard? Opinions are wanted please,......and if anyone has pics of their 4th gen, those too!!! I was thinking of the WAAG in black.

I have one on my truck, and while it looks pretty cool, I don't think I would have gotten it if I could do it over. I would have bought a ARB instead. Most here don't seem to like brushguards because of the added weight and lack of protection.

If you do anything, think about it for a while before you do it. If you still want one then get it. I wish I had found this forum before I purchased mine.

My Manik is ok for holding up lights and that's about it. I'm 2WD so I didn't really have a need for a "real" bumper (ARB, TJM). But, I still regret getting the Manik. It was ok at first but now it gets on my nerves. I'm a somewhat neat-freak with my 4Runner and it makes cleaning the front end a PITA. Plus the shaking is annoying. I had some custom top brackets made that helped a lot. But, for what they cost I shouldn't have that problem in the first place.

Hes got a 4th gen... he doesn't have a choice. I know there is a custom steel bumper for the 4th gen, but... he doesn't seem quite as serious as most of us and just wants something that will spunk up the looks a bit. Which brush guards do, but... they will do more dammage in an accident than if you didn't have it. Just a thought... check out t4r.org there are posts upon posts about brushguards on 4th gens. Good luck!

WOW!! I was kind of wishy-washy on getting the brush guard.........but you guys are right. And i think you steered me in the right direction. I am definately super-anal about cleaning the truck and stuff like that---and obviously it isn't worth it as far as noise, vibrations and just being a pain to clean around. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, that was a point I forgot to bring up too. It is a pain to clean the front with mine. It can be done, but definitely a chore.

I put a brush guard on my Dodge 1500, and as has been said, I liked it at first, then I hated it. I originally thought it would be cool (poser factor) and hold some IPF lights at the same time. I ended up dumping the brush guard and mounting the lights right to the bumper. After a few thousand miles, the chrome on the guard was pitted and started rusting. Seems like it weighed 75lbs too.

I'm considering adding some lights to the 4Runner, but I'll probably either go with a simple lightbar like the Jaos, or just get a safari type rack with light tabs on the top.

YMMV.

I'm fairly new to this forum, can somebody tell me what an ARB is? Thanks

thats my truck,
i decided to go this route because i did not like brush guards because they crowded the front end and didnt add to the appeal so i went and purchased a westin safari bar and brought it to a body shop and had it color matched for $100 and then i slapped my 520's on it. im still very happy with it. very easy to keep clean and i absolutely love the piaa's
