Brighter Back up Lights??
I'm wondering if there are any brighter back up lights available for my 2000 4Runner. A long while ago I was reading an off-roading magazine and there was a "cheap tricks" section. In this section there was a fog light bulb made by "Blazer" that would fit my 1988 Toyota truck. I want to say that it was 55watts. Would be nice to get something like that for the 4Runner.

I once read a cheap trick in that mag where a guy bought some of those 10.00 4" utility lights from Napa, then beefed up the wiring and put a 100w Napa replacement bulb in place of the 55 watter, and basically had a 100w light for around 20.00 or so each. If that's what you're talking about, I'll see if I still have that article tonight

I ended up going the 'blazer' route in my 87 runner, helped alot when backing up, as I have 5% tint on the back and I couldnt even see the factory backup lights. I was thinking about doing the same to my '00 runner.
it is by no means the same as doing dedicated fogs, but it does help alot.

That's my plan. How did you wire them up?
I'm going with a On-off-on switch so I can select between always on - off- and reverse gear on.
I'm waiting for the uni-bit I ordered to finish the wiring.

I just had a pleasant ordering experience from Susquehanna Motorsports aka www.rallylights.com
The 6" Hella rubber housing work lamps are a bargain and put out a poo-load of light in a narrow wide flood pattern.
edit:
narrow wide doesn't really make sense?? I meant narrow vertically and wide horizontally

Steve built the main components (main beam, wings, brackets, braces, etc) and I had a friend weld it up including the built in back-up lights I designed.
I think it came out awesome, it's cool to think of something and actually pull of getting it built the way you envisioned.

Here's mine...
They are just rocklights from trail-gear.com.
Just mounted them to a relay, and the relay is activated when my regular backup lights are on.

Yeah, I trying find a bulb, doesn't have to be Blazer, that is high intensity. Don't want to add more lights to the back, just make the back-up lights I have brighter.
