brank problem

when i apply my brakes when i am going over a bump or if i slam them on it almost like they just give out on me...them will work a little but it feels like they are skipping but if i take my foot off them and reapply them they work fine no matter how hard i press them. anyone know what it might be?

Okay sounds like you are pumping them to get them too work, many things can bring about a pump to apply problems. Not enough info or history here to determine what is casuing the problem. You need to give us more info for us to come up with some better ideals as to what can be wrong...at this point all I can really say is go have a full brake system check done.

Mine does something similar...

The pedal will sink a little (used to sink almost to the floor), then pressure comes back and forces the pedal back up. I've had them bled but it only helped a little.

Sounds like your ABS is engaging. The brake pedal has a "crunchy" feel when this happens, right?

I had this problem. It had occured for about 3 months and then one day I was putting my brakes on to stop quicker than usual and I lost them totally. What had happened was I blew the brake line. My best guestimate is that the reason they are doing this is because you may have a pin sized leak and the fluid is leaking out of it. I would be very careful and even check out your brake lines for leaks, etc. I had the line replaced and worked great ever since. Goodluck.

There is some more info now, Do you have an ABS system? If the answer is no I am thinking it is time for a mst cly rebuild. If there is an ABS then would still need more info.....

I had the same thing happening to my 95 runner. When I would be coming to a stop (applying constant pressure) every once in a while I would get a 'pop' sound and they would sink immediately. They would regain pressure shortly after this. It's scary as hell. I replaced my master and it was fine.. for a couple of days.. It started doing it again for a few more weeks then it just stopped. It's been about 5 months since the last time it happened. No signs of fluid leakage on the lines or anywhere else for that matter. I'm baffled.
