Brake warping at 20000 miles! Is this normal?
My rotors are starting to grab weird when I brake which leads me to believe that they are becoming warped. The thing is that my truck only has 20000 miles exactly on it. Is this normal? Should I head to the dealer to see if this is a warranty item?
My truck is a 2003 Double Cab TRD.

No it isn't normal, but it does happen. I am not sure, but if you are still under warranty you might be covered. I would really push the issue with the service department. That is just lame. Pads I can understand, but rotors? No, they should take care of that for you.

Well, I hope so, but since I have bigger tires and different rims, they are going to try and say that is what caused the problem. I hate the dealer...arrrrgh.

I doubt they will cover it. Most likely they will say that is a wear and tear part and won't fix it. The only time I heard of a dealer fixing rotors as a warrenty is with my mom's 2003 Lexus ES300, but she only had 5K miles on it.

it can happen, worst case change your orignial wheels/tires back on before you go. are you hard on the brakes? a lot of freeway braking? those conditions are more likley to cause warping.
its a toss up, depends on what side of the bed the service manager woke up on. i'm sure they could if they wanted to.

You should definitely push the issue...sure it's a wear item, but 20k? Come on. My Taco has 104k and the rotors aren't warped yet. If you still have the stock wheels/tires, you may want to put them back on before you take it in.

Maybe I was lucky but I had mine replaced by my dealer right before it hit 40,000 but I did complain a few times prior and they said they didnt see any problems. They replaced the rotors less the cost of pads that I paid for so I think I paid under 20 bucks and got new rotors. I say worth a try...

The dealer is going to re-surface the rotors for me free and I'm going to replace the brake pads. Basically I'm just paying for the brake pads. That worked out well.

Good to hear...but expect the problem to return. I am just warning you. Turning the rotors does not have a good track record on Toyota's with warpage.
Ask them what they will do if the shimee comes back and document it.
