Finally.

After many, many, MANY moons of trying to figure out my brake problem, it
came down to one little, tiny solution.

Here is what I did to fix my problem. Of course, I had several problems that
needed to be corrected anyway, so these parts were done first.

Rear shoes
Front pads
Front rotors
Rear wheel cylinders
Full system bleed
New master clyinder
Full system bleed
Professional system bleed

None of these things helped. I ended up with the same pedal I had from
the beginning. I was getting frustrated.

After discussing this problem with a relative, (service advisor) he commented
that they had a similar problem with a car after changing the pads on all 4
wheels. They went round and round with the brake pedal, trying to figure out
why it was so bad.

It came down to the adjustable pushrod for the master cylinder.

Certainly it couldn't be that easy... could it?

I removed my master cylinder (leaving the plumbing connected) and found the
pushrod. It was a 7mm bolt going into the rod. It was difficult to turn, but I
put 4 solid turns on it, and put it back together. I figured if it made a little
difference, then I could always do it more.

I take the truck out for a drive, and the first light I come to, I rest my foot on
the brake like I am used to, and the truck STARTS STOPPING!!! Normally, I
could rest my foot on the brake, and have at least an inch or two of travel
before it would begin to stop.

Then I find a little incline. I want to make sure the brakes aren't engaged too
much. So I stop at the light on just the slightest incline. The truck starts to
roll backwards when I let off... B E A U Tiful

So, my truck is almost 100%. I am so happy to have my brakes working
properly, I may just reward her by having the inspection and tags done
for real.

Hmmm... interesting. I wonder if it's worth the time to ponder why that would have fallen out of adjustment? It seems weird that it would.

I understand the glee to have it working, but my concern is that you may just be adjusting something to mask a problem.

If it helps... I've got weird pedal things happening nwo too...

hmmm i wonder if this is really a fix? if so... i might have t odo this soon to my truck....

Wow...I might give that a try! I've had new rotors, pads, rear brakes adjusted, and system bled 3 times and it's still works terrible. That's awesome that yours turned out good.

Well, I understand the "why it would have fallen out of adjustment" question, but,
as long as I have owned the truck, they have been that way. As long as my brother
owned it, they were that way. Maybe it was never properly adjusted to start?

Heck, there really isn't anything more to change, replace or inspect. I had a professional
shop go over the entire brake system. The only thing they could find was that the
calipers will need a rebuild sometime soon. The seals are looking a bit worn and old.

Other than that... its 100%. Has to be the fix.

I'll keep informed if there are any ill effects.
