Hmmmm.....strange.
I'm sure you're not touching the bulbs with ur fingers right?
Check the wiring, if that's ok, maybe the housing is dirty?
That's the only things I could think of.

It's a common problem in 96-00 4Runners, thats why in the 01-02 models, they changed the wiring harness. I have not had a problem withy my tailight bulbs going out on me.

I keep records of my maintanance and I change tail bulbs R & L about every 6 months...
I see Runners (3rd gen) with burnt out tails ALL the time. So the new harness is the fix?

My mom's 91 has blown the left tail light about 6 times over the
past couple of years. The right side has never been touched. I have
always wondered if anyone else had that problem.
