Hi all, first post here.
I've got a 96 Tacoma 5-speed 3.4. Revtec 3" w/33's 202,000miles

About a month ago I developed a braking issue. Coming home from work I stopped at a light and everything was smooth, then I went to stop about 100 yards later and when I depressed my pedal it felt like it caught on something, I had to press a little harder, but not a lot, and it felt like it "popped" loose, you could hear a noticeable pop from outside the cab. After it popped loose it braked fine and went a week or so before it did it again. So now it's done it several times and the other day it was doing it everytime I'm hit the brakes. I couldn't trace it down at that time and, of course, now it's smooth again.
I'm taking the wheels off and looking around this afternoon, after I run to NAPA to borrow their code reader, yeah, popped a cel on the way home too.
I'm thinking caliper but it feels more like in the cable system which would be strange.
Brakes were redone before I bought the truck two years ago, probably 25k on front pads.

Any ideas you guys may have? I'll update as I dig into it.

You actually heard the "pop" or you felt it through the pedal?

both, you can hear the pop sound from under/outside of the truck and feel the give through the pedal.

Pads are all very even and only worn maybe 1/4 down.

....yeah, I'm stumped as well.
I looked everything over yesterday and nothing stands out. All caliper cylinders move easily, pads look even and new, rotors are smooth.
From what I can remember it does sound like its coming from the front, and not the rear.
I drove a while yesterday and couldn't get it to "catch" again, so I'll just keep an eye on it for now until it does, then stop and track it down. I just need to be aware of this while driving and make sure I keep my distance in case of a problem.

I also found out yesterday I need new shocks and half shafts, top boot on both shafts are torn and horrible tire wear on the passengers front. Got some work to do next weekend. Luckily I've already got one halfshaft in the garage.

I'll post back up when and if I figure this out.
