Brake Help
My mechanic tell me that my brake needs work. I believe I need to replace my break pad. Do I need to replace the shoes in the back? what's the difference between shoes and pads? He's going to charge me $250, but I called napa and the pads for the front is $40 and similar for the rear shoes. what yall think?

Get him to put an actual quote together for you...
Brake pads are what are used in a disc brake setup... like your front,
Shoes are what are used in drum brake set ups... like your rear...
Do you need to replace the shoes in the back??? Ask your mechanic, he is the only one who looked at it, sadly none of us here can tell you if you need to or not without looking at them...
Now as for the price, Napa is $40 for pads. Is that their regulair pad? does the runner call for a ceramix pad? What kind of pads will he be using. If he is quoting on OEM Toy pads, then yes it may be more... plus he will machine the rotors and so on....

Make sure to take the rotors/drums to a shop and have em turned (usually about $10-20 per rotor or drum).
The fronts you can totally do yourself, the rears are not that hard but it is more technical.

$250 to replace the pads and shoes sounds a bit high. Do you know if your mechanic also was going to turn or replace the rotors and/or drums? If it's just pads, I'd DIY it. I've never done rear brake shoes so I also can't help you there.
