bolt size for pickup front frame rail?

anyone know the size of the bolt that fits in the five tapped holes in the ('mini') pickup's front frame rail? this is for mounting a front skid plate. i suspect it's an M12x1.5 but since that's an expensive, uncommon size, it would be nice to know for certain. i know it is not an M12x1.75 or 1.25, and can also say for comparison that a 7/16-20 fits it but is very loose both in terms of face-to-face thread tightness as well as diameter. the M12x1.5 is the next larger metric size up from the 7/16-20, so i'm guessing that's it.

thanks!

that sounds proper, i know its a 12x1.5 or 1.25, and you said its not a 1.25, so it must be a 12x1.5

where are you shopping for bolts? a 12x1.5 is pretty cheap at the local ACE hardware store.. the one near me has all sizes and they are fairl inexpensive... half the bolts on my truck are from there..... they are grade 10 i beleive.... i have them on my motor mounts and have had no problems in over a year, but those are m14 bolts....

Many hardware stores will have the M12-1.5 bolts, its the M12x1.25 that are the hard to find size, at least in my area. However, I thnk almost all the M12 bolts used on Toyotas are 1.25mm thread pitch.

One thing I have done when I needed bolts to fit in those M12x1.25 threaded holes is to run a 1/2-20 (NF) tap through them. Then I can use any 1/2" fine threaded bolt.

hi guys. either i got a bad bolt as an example the first time around, or just didn't turn hard enough. the m12x1.25 was indeed the right size. additionally today, we tried a "thread fixer" kit to confirm the size, then i purchased additional bolts and cranked 'em in there, with success. thanks for your help.
