Body swap on a 3rd gen 4runner?

What holds the cab to the chassis in a 3rd gen 4runner? Has anyone done this before? What is the difference between a RWD chassis and a 4WD chassis?

thanks,

Aaron

He probably understands that part, but what you need to do is get a copy of the Toyota Factory Service Manuals. You should be able to get all the information you need to know from those. It will show you locations of the body and chassis mountings. Also lots of educational stuff on different parts of your 4Runner. If you have a 2WD the big difference is going to be the drive train. With a 4WD you have a transfer case attached to the transmission providing the driving force to turn the front wheels. This will in turn (no pun intended) spin the front drive shaft and front differential. Up forward under the engine you have a front drive axle, differential, hubs, which will most likely have different suspension attaching everything to the chassis, transfer case shifter in the cab so your center console will be different, the transmission shifter is different, and you may or may not have rear differential lock depending on what came with the vehicle from the factory.

Basically if you have a 2wd and you want 4wd, you would be much better off just selling the 2WD and buying a 4WD. It will save you so much time, effort, frustration and energy not to mention cash that you could be using to mod your suspension, engine and other interior upgrades. But hey, its your truck!.

Get the FSM's, you can pick them up on eBay for under $100 for all 3 volumes or order them directly from Toyota but be prepared to pay out almost double that. There is also a Toyota tech site run by Toyota and for a fee of $10 you can have access to all of Toyota's FSM for 24 hours and download any and all you want. I did that before I got my copies, but if you go that route be prepared to spend many hours downloading the files. Hope this helps
