body lift blues
(originally posted in a slightly related thread, but i decided to move it)
i just called a shop and asked them for a quote on a 2" body lift for my 94 pickup, and they tell me i can't do it because i have a column shifter auto.
he told me that spindle lifts will be available in a couple of months but i have no idea what that is, or how much it will cost.
doing a suspension lift wouln't be out of the question if it didn't cost 2x the amt i paid for the truck, and i can't rationalize spending that much money on it. i guess i don't love it enough.
anyway i got my new rims and the beatup mich LTX 30x9.5-15's that were on em. The rims fit the lugs, but the tires are way too big. they rub after the wheel is turned about 70% of max. and there's nothing i can really pound out of the way. (i don't think a body lift was gonna help with that anyway, but at least it'd look good )
i figure i have 3 options: suspension lift; new, smaller tires (i was thinking a 215/70-15ish tire); or this spindle lift idea...i figure the michelins are almost gone anyway so this kills 2 birds with 1 stone...
i'm prob gonna go with the tires but would appreciate your guyses input and some info on spindle lifts... thanks!

A spindle lift sounds pretty cool, but from what I hear they really make them for 2WD's only. If someone makes one for a 4WD, I would be interested. What company was making the spindle lifts?

Go to an offroad shop that does Toyotas. I don't know of any reason why a colum shift should cause a problem. You're lift kit will come with a shifter extension.
If done a couple of body lifts and you do have to be able to do a little welding for the shifter extensions. I don't think that the people you were talking to knew what they were talking about. There are lots of people on this list with 2nd gen Runners and 90-95 trucks that have autos and body lifts.

I bet you he has a 2wd pickup. If so, then the fenders on the 2wd are cut differently and have about 2" less clearance than the 4wd fenders, and that is why your 30's rub.
You should be able to simply adjust your tranny linkage like I did
www.toyotaoffroad.net/afertig/96/bodylift
If not, you can weld in an extension
