Blown head Gasket
I just bought a 1995.5 tacoma 5 weeks ago and last night it started blown white steam from tail pipe. I was under the impression that the 2.7 didn't blow head gaskets like 22r motors. I guess i thought wrong. It has 130k mi is this a one time deal or somthing these motors do time and time again. Also is the timing cover still a issue that shuold be corrected when pullling the head on the 2.7 motors?

Replace the timing chain when you pull the head. I had the chain issue, broke the engine down, fixed it, ran great, blew a head gasket two days ago. About 5000 miles later. It would have been easy to do then, but I tried to save a dime and now I have to spend a dollar. I don't know if your model has the issue or not, it doesn't matter, go ahead a replace the chain!

Thanks for the info did your chain eat through the cover or did it just make noise? Also what do think about decking the gasket surface before re-installing the head? I heard the chain can get too loose and require a thicker head gasket?
