Does anyone know which freeze plug I install this in on the 5VZ-FE engine? The instructions say Rear Left Hand Side, but I'm not sure where that is or how to get to it. Any thoughts & pics will help.

I had the heater installed few weeks ago on my 99sr5. I'm assuming that not much has changed to 01. The plug is on the left side right at the back of the engine. I don't have any pictures, but you should be able to see the plug when you look through the wheel-well through an opening behind the strut. You will most likely be taking the wheel and at least one cover(on the inside of the wheel-well) off so then you'll have 'pretty easy' access

Ahh, thanks for the info. I'm assuming that you had the stealer do it. Does it look hard to do or require any special tools? I might wait until it gets a little warmer to drain & re-fill the cooling system again.

I know parts stores have a tool for removing 'em. Wish I would've known about it when I installed the one on my 22RE. Talk about PITA, I practically had to drill out the entire thing.:pat:

I have always used a blunt tool like a old 3/8 or 1/2 in extension. hit it at the top or bottom but not both. try to make it so that the top for ex kicks out and the bottom in . then take a pair of plyers and use the block as a fulcrum point and pull it out. .In the case that it falls inside it will not go far .most likely it will drop a inch or two you can usually put a finger in and pull it up to the hole and use your pliers.
I have not installed a heater since in Florida we do not need them.

I've been seriously contemplating installing one on my 4Runner. I'd be interested in seeing how difficult the installation is. If you'd like, you can use the garage. I have a full compliment of tools. Also, when you are going to bring your lady's car over for struts?

We're holding off on that for now since I'm going to start travelling with my new job next week. Plus we're saving for the wedding so we're putting money toward that. I might be able to do it in Feb depending upon time & money.

Have you heard anything about Hi-Tech Automotive over here on Kipling @ Mississippi? They seem to be a nice clean shop, might take her car there for a PM just to try them out.
