Blob on fuel rail/delivery pipe

On the end of one of the fuel rails on a V6 is a blob, which I cannot see with the engine in place. On that blob is a plastic cap. I managed to get my hand between the engine and the firewall and also managed to remove this cap. And a small screw with a rubber O-ring (I think, it happenend quite fast) that was apparantly lying loose in the cap fell and is now forever lost, stuck between the engine parts below.

Is this screw supposed to do something important, should I replace it (it apparantly was loose for a long time and the engine didn't explode or anything. Could petrol leak from the blob, and what is that blob supposed to be doing?

Ava.

Can you post a picture of this blob perhaps?

That would definitely help in troubleshooting.

Peace!

That almost sounds like the cap on the shraeder valve. Do you have fuel coming out when you turn the key and let the fuel pump turn on?

This wont be much help, but I had the exact same experience. Before checking this forum - I was trying to reinstall the screw. As in most of the runner parts, it's all a huge challenge physically.

Mine too was lying loose in the plastic cap. No apparent fuel problems so having it out cant be much of a problem.

Nonetheless I will continue to fight it until I get that rascal back in.

Ok, as soon as you tell me how I turn on X-ray flash on my digital camera. :pat:

Meanwhile I've found out it is the fuel damper. It smoothens the pulses from the fuelpump and injectors.

I don't smell any petrol at all under the hood. Thats a bit weird since the car recently went from 1:5 to 1:4 (liters per kilometer) (9.4 mpg?). That's why I'm looking at everything I can think of, and sofar the only thing I found was the trottle position sensor being way off. So far off, that the IDLE switch never closed.

Anyway, who has any idea if fuel can exit from that blob (fuel damper) if that screw isn't there? What is this screw supposed to hold in place?

yea, you know.. Mine was the same way.. I think it is a fuel preasure regulator of some sort.. I can notremember if I have the screw in right now or not.. I had 2 motors when I did the first swap.. I probably used the one with the screw.. But I never had a mileage problem...
