Talking BIGGEST tire on an IFS...or...IFS to Solid Axle swap

I was wondering what is the biggest tire (with the necessary lift) that can be put on the IFS on the 2nd generations safely. By safely I mean still have even wear, not prematurely wear any other front end components out etc. I was also wondering if there is a kit out there for a SAS for the 2nd generations. I have seen kits for the IFS Chevys (shackles, hangers, springs and other stuff, not axle, however) and was just wondering if there is a company that makes this for the 4 Runner as well. Thanks a lot!

I have 33's with a 3 inch body lift on my 92 p/u. You can check out www.Kongs.com or call them and talk to Mark Mason about an S.A.S. kit.

The Skyjacker chart shows the biggest tire as a 36" with 4" suspension, 3" body, and some fender trimming. Dale (upndair) www.upndair.com did a solid axle conversion and is running 37" MT/Rs. I think he got the conversion components (less the axle) from All Pro Off Road.

If you put larger tires on your truck, you WILL wear out components. No way around that. You just have to accept it.

I know that (one reason I'm selling my Dodge ), but I meant like VERY prematurely. I have heard of people cranking their T bars on the 4 Runners and having to replace CV joints way too often. What I really meant I guess would be is there a solid lift kit for the IFS that will not mess up geometry too bad and wear stuff out on a monthly/yearly/too often basis? If so which one is it? Thanks.

A SAS on a 2nd gen is fairly common. Checkout the pirate board, www.pirate4x4.com , and you'll find EVERYTHING you'd ever want to know about SAS's. Search first.

www.allprooffroad.com has a SAS kit, and I think http://kongs4x4.com/ has it too.

You can fit 32's without a lift, and 33's with a 1" body lift cranking the Tbars a little and some minor trimming. Anything more and you'll have to drop the front diff.

If you crank the Tbars then it is recommended you install manual hubs to take care of the CV boot problem.
