Best way to tone down a LOUD exhaust?

I just got the exhaust done on my 91 3.0, 2.25" back from Y with the 14" magnaflow. It sounds pretty wicked and damn loud, but its a bit too much around town.
A guy at work told me a resonated tip might help tone it down a bit, has anyone tried a resonated exhaust tip & got an improved (toned down) sound from it?

The tip may help, but it won't be dramatic. Another option is installing a in-line resignator

I used the longest 2.25 Magnaflow they make...Seems like it was 18 or 20 inches long. It's got a low tone, not much louder than stock. Try the inline.

Try a Pacesetter Monza resonated tip. Mine sounds perfect now.

Yeah, I should have went with the longer magnaflow, I don't know if they will swap it for me now or not, we'll see.
I was thinking about the resonator, they wanted like $50 to throw one of them on, I guess thats not too much more than a good resonated tip so maybe I'll just do that, I just didn't want to dump more money in to this exhaust.
It sounds pretty mean & the acceleration is much better, but its just about 10db or so too loud. I was gonna post a sound clip on here but I dont know where to host it.

Go with the inline. I have one and it toned the noise down perfectly.

[what can I do to it have have a louder exhast note?]

Turn down the stereo?
Drill some holes in the muffler?
Swap mufflers with 4what?

I wonder if there is something I can stick in my 4 inch round, 18 inch long tip to quiet it down if I wanted to?

Ideas?

Did you remove or hollow out the catalatic converter? If so that is why it is so loud. Put one back on. I have a stock exaust and just hollowed out my cat, Now my exaust is so loud.

No, it shouldn't. And there is really no such thing as a free flow cat - that's just a sales gimmick. First, a cat has to have the density it has to work at all, so more free flow is highly unlikely. Second, the engine was designed for it to be there, so removing it doesn't do much, in fact - see third. Third, tests (many many tests over the years, the data is pretty conclusive) show that the cat doesn't hinder flow, even the factory one, so there is no real good reason to remove it anyway, and no good reason to replace a good factory one with an aftermarket one.
