Before I make final suspension descision? Please help!

OK, 98 4runner 4x4 SR5/ 140kmiles. Trying to decide between Sonaran Steel tokico/99 Springs, tokico/1.5 spacers. or OME 2-2.5" lift shocks and springs. I have 265/75/16 BFG A/T KO's. I don't want to mess with the problems that arise above 2"-2.5" lifts, plus my tires are too small for anything more, it would look stupid. So....I guess my question is what would be a better way to go with a 140kmile vehicle? Do I need new springs, or mostly just new shocks? If so, I'll probably get shocks/spacers. If I need new springs too, are the OME springs/shocks too tall for my tire size, will they cause me to run into the problems associated with more suspension lift, cv boots, etc.? Also, what would a simple 1" body lift do for me in combination with say the 99 springs, etc.? I don't plan to do tons of CRAZY offroading, yet some. I just think the Runner would look better a few inches taller! So basicly it will be a street queen, but a BAD looking one! How bad does a 1" body lift jack up the ride/stability, etc.? Thanks for your help, and please help me with this descision!! Peace!

since your not offroading much and want it to be a street queen then go buy a sequia jk. body lifts suck they do nothing to help and you can lift that truck fine 2.5'' with out have to change things. suspension lift over body lift any day. no matter what lift you do your center of gravity is higher so u are more top heavy. put it this way stay stock if you want a bad street queen. and just do exhaust and cosmetic looking things like brush guards dont waste money on lifts that are not going to be of use to you.

Thanks man, that SEQUIA reference was funny! Ya...I guess I'm wondering after 140kmiles when doing suspension maintenance do I need to replace just the shocks, or the springs too? It seems to ride fine, but I guess I just feel like it might ride better with some new shocks.

There are tons of threads on this but there are a few combos I'd look at with what you've mentioned. It would take forever to go through all the combos. I can say what I would go for....

....for 2" lift I go for my current setup.

....for 2.5" I'd use the tundra coils in front, OME890s in the rear

Shocks I'd either go with the OME 91SC/86C combo or the Tokico Trekmasters

SS sells a good kit for the 2.5" lift (I believe it was #7 on his website)

I love my set-up. Mild lift but a great ride on road and some added clearence off-road.

Specs: Tundra TDR Coils. Left, 48131-AF100 (Yellow/Yellow). Right, 48131-AF090 (Blue/Yellow) Old Man Emu 890 Rear Coils. (A Coil goes on drivers side) Shocks: Front, Bilstein F4-BE5-2450-HO. Rear, Bilstein F4-BE5-2451-HO. (Yellow Body and Blue Boot) I reused my Bilsteins because they are still in good condition. I like the ride. I bought the springs from http://www.trdparts4u.com/
SS Front Diff Drip.

I love the ride of the Bilsteins. Firm but not harsh. It is more stable than stock with the lift.

I also installed Poly swaybar bushings from http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/4runswaykit.htm . And rear swaybar end bushings from AutoZone.

Body lifts are great! I just put a 1" body lift on to clear my 33's. I would go with Sonoran Steel system #7 in your situation.

I just installed an OME lift on my '02. Here is a link to the thread.
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/toytec-ome3-run-lift-2002-4runner-sport-102451/
So far, I love it. The Tokiko Trekmasters ride great. Overall I think I got about 2" front and 2.5" in the rear. The ride is much better, as is the handling. I have no problems with 285 BFG Ats either. Blake (neliconcept) has seen it in person. His is lift is much higher than mine, and it looks great.
Just passing on my experience.

get the SS #7 setup if you are gonna do it right and spend the dough. Your 32's won't look dumb with 2.5/3" of lift. Or go for an OME coil/shock setup front and rear which will work just as well.

Gerdo, where did you get that pre-runner light bar??!!

Hey Gerdo, I have been looking for a pre-runner light bar exactly like yours for my 97 4Runner forever! Can you tell me where you got it or where you might have had it made? I wanted to mount a set of 968cs IPf lights on my front bumper, but I don't think there's enough clearance in front of the 99 model grill I have on it. I need a light bar just like yours. Too cool! Thanks!

Question Same situation and advice would be appreciated!

I'm sort of in the same situation with my '97. I have fairly freshly rebuilt Sway-A-Way Racerunners with Tundra valving up front and sacked out Downey springs and Bilsteins out back. I have asked for advice with this from lots of sources and everybody has a different OME spring and shock combination to offer. VERY confusing! Steve Shaeffer told me to go with OME 890's and N86 shocks, along with his adjustable trac bar and Daystar bump stops. I have a feeling he is THE 3rd generation 4Runner guru and that I should heed his advice, but even some guy at ARB in Washington told me 906's, and Wheeler Off Road told me 891's! I'm thinking Steve knows his stuff and is probably right. I DO NOT want a soft suspension, which is what I have now, but I don't have a heavy bumper and don't always have a load. I'm thinking the 906coils are going to be too soft with not enough lift. I need at least 2.5".

Also, Downey Off Road has a drop bracket for the trac bar that is a lot less than Steve's bar. Anybody have any experience with either? I definitely need to do something with the stock bar, because the rear axle is shifter over with my present lift.

Anybody know who has urethan sway bar bushings for front and rear? Wheeler has them for the front, but not for the back on their site.

Has anybody used Steve's softer Daystar or Energy Suspension bump stops and is that worth the cost?

Thanks for any help in advance!
