Battery Question

My battery is getting weaker in my 02 taco and my question is this: can you put in a higher CCA battery and get better a better turn over or shouuld I replace it with an eqivilent battery as far as CCA goes. Will a higher CCA battery mess up my electrical system?

A higher CCA battery will not affect your electrical system. It simply means more power would be available IF your starting system needed it. But putting a battery in with a CCA rating higher than what you need is simply a waste of money. Unless you have some high power electrical gear other than the factory stuff that might pull more power than your alternator can handle, you won't need the extra CCA nor will it add any longevity to the battery. But, regarding your original question: It will not mess up your electrical system.

A higher CCA battery also has a higher reserve number. So you can sit there longer with the radio on and not have the running then otherwise. I have always put a higher CCA battery in all of my vehicles for a couple of reasons. If the dome light is left on it is nice not to have a dead battery, I live in Canada and it gets really cold here. I used to plow snow with my runner - and hence needed the extra power per the answer above. I also get less of the lights and blower dimming when I am at idle. I just like having the extra when needed - ie for my winch if the truck isn't running.
