Bad O2 sensor after 600 miles??

Had a CEL on my 98' 4Runner, hooked it up to scanner and it read a code P0171 (Bank 1). I figured this is the front (pre cat) O2 so I replaced that with a factory fit ND through Underdog-cleared code. Put about 600 miles on it and boom today I get a CEL- hooked it up to scanner and get the same code as before. Is it possible that the O2 went bad that fast?? Or could this code mean something else? All the scanner gave was that code, bank 1 & Lean. I have checked the wires to the O2 and they are fine.

MAF? Funny thing I was just in that area last week cleaning out my throttle body and replacing the plugs\wires. I thought I tightened everything down, better double check. Anyway I was going to clean the MAF at that time but I thought I had read on here that for 96-99 or so we have a different MAF and you should not clean it or you were unable to??

Try cleaning the MAF first and reset the CEL.
If it comes back again you're going to have to replace the MAF.....and no, the O2 sensor is not likely the culprit.
That code can be caused by either an O2 or a MAF sensor.

reason i mentioned the k&n is if you over oil them, they can foul the MAF, clean it and reset efi like mtl said and youll be good to go. reason to reset efi fuse is to get the comp to relearn the fuel mixture faster

by the way you should tell us what the info on the runner....year/motor!!! some of the sensors are different but they can be cleaned.
