Backspacing and offset????
Can someone please explain this to me. I need someone to put my mind at ease or at least reason this out to me. if a wheel is 16x8 with a 10mm offset. the wheel should have 4.39" of backspacing, correct? i say this because half of 8 is 4, add the 10 mm to that and it should give 4.39". Now the wheels i bought (16x8, 10mmoffset) have closer to 4.75" when i put a straight item (level) across the back lip of the wheel and measure from the wheel mounting surface.
is it because they measure wheel width from the inner beads and the outside diameter is greater than the bead diameter? or am i just missing something here?

There is a thread somewhere on here as I asked the same question some time back. Try searching for "backspacing" or something similar of threads I've started. Roger Brown has some stuff on his website too, and everything else too!

i just went a remeasured the wheel from the outside lip to the inside lip and it came up to right around 9" granted this wasn't a very technical form of measurement since the tire is already mounted. now the backspacing makes sense for a 9" wide wheel but if that is the case why the heck would the sell it as an 8"!
