backed into a pole, and another question...

I'm a bit bum'd....I backed into a light pole at walgreens last nite. BUMMER. It only put a small dent in the chrome - and the side of my trailer hitch did a number on the concrete - but it didn't pick up any carnage. It may have pushed one side of the bumper up say 1/3-1/2" =- but no big....for some reason, I'm ok with it all! Wishin' it was the front...that way I'd have an excuse to look into an ARB or TMJ! ah well, better luck next time!

question....at about 60+ mph I'm getting a "shimmy" in the steering wheel....and a *bit* of a nervous ride...it's not bad or outta control - just a bit annoying....I've had the tires balanced about 3k back...prolly time for that again...but, what next if that doesn't do it? Pointers on where to look/what to look at next? btw, I just rolled over 115k this am!

thanks!

aron

Could be bent/warped rim or a bad tire. They can balance with a bad tire but the problem doesn't show up till highway speeds. Also, could be bad tie-rod ends, but not likely.

Might want to get BIGGER rear-view mirrors too!

might be an unbalanced driveshaft. I had a shimmy like that, but i ended up selling my truck before i got it taken care of. It could also be something like flat spots on your tires if you have locked them up recently.

unbalanced drive shaft? wow, how to remedy that? new one? yeesh! I guess I could deal w/it....if it's that, would it go away if in neutral?

i know it's not flat spots...

if it is an unbalanced driveshaft you just have to get it balanced. Im not sure if it would go away in nuetral. You may try searching for it on the forums since that is where i first heard about it. Like i said i never got around to doing it on my truck so i dont know if that was the problem, but a few people have had it happen.

I'll search that! THANX!

It's not TOO bad, I can deal w/ it...but it's slightly annoying!

I don't see how it would go away in neutral...if the tires are still spinning the shaft and the diff is still spinning the drive shaft...neutral will just dissconnect it from the engine, it won't stop any sort of drivetrain problem beyond the tranny/clutch. Unless of course you end up coasting to a stop of course......lol
