Axle shaft lenght??

I am going to put a '96 or up Tacoma 8 in the back of the heep and was wondering if the axle shafts were the same length on each side.

TIA
Greddy

Hi and welcome!!

They are the same legnth on both sides.

I love the fact that we have Toys with Jeep axles and maybe soon, a Jeep with a Toy axle.

Thanks for the welcome. Actualy, there will be two of us from Louisiana 4x4 doing the swap. We are going to split the cost of a pair of axle spares, which is why I needed to know if the length was the same.

I watched Yotas on 37s running all over Gilmer, TX without fear of failure. So, I talked to one of them and he looked baffled that I was having axle problems with 33s

After looking at the clearance of the taco 8 and the fact that it is darn near the exact same width, I decided to do something a little different. After I get the axle in I have to start searching for a TRD sticker for the tub

Make sure your spares go with your axles. Pre 86 (85 and before) rear axles are shorter and have smaller brakes. Post 86 (start of IFS) have a wider rear axle with a thicker tube and bigger brakes. They are all 30 (?) spline so the pumpkins will interchange.

Ed at Kongs/Maniac Metal Works was talking about swaping Toyota axles into his TJ as well.

Maniac Metal Works is building a Willys with a 22RE & Toyota axles.

Since you are Toyota Parts Dude, you wouldn't happen to have the skinny on the best place to find Tacoma axles would you?

Junk yards around Baton Rouge aren't too great.

So are you going to use a Tacoma 8" (elocker) or 8.25" axle? I'm not sure what axle shafts are interchangeable with the 8.25" axle.

This place is good for Toyota parts:

Let me make sure I have this right. The 95.5 and up Tacoma 4x4 and PreRunner that have the elocker are the 8" or 4 pinion design which is the same as the V6/Turbo diff. Without the elocker in the 95.5 and up Tacomas is the 8.25" diff or the 2 pinion design. All 95.5 and up Tacoma axles are 60" to 60.75" WMS to WMS depending on who measured it. My TJ axle is 60" WMS to WMS.

Both diffs have 30 spline axles....correct? I am planning on staying with 95.5 and up Tacoma axle. My wish list is an elocker and 4.56 gears. However, I will take a 4.10 elocked axle over an open 4.56 geared open axle.

I am going to have the shafts redrilled to 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. Take the brackets off my exploded dana 35 and weld them on the taco axle indexed to the proper angle for my fixed yoke/ cv shaft. That way my springs in the rear won't be bowed out like they are now.

86-95 Mini Pickups have an 8" rear
95.9-2003 Tacoma without e-locker have the 8.25" rear
95.9-2003 Tacoma with e-locker have the 8" rear

More aftermarket is available for the 8", Even the 2WD PreRunner Tacoma's with the e-locker have the 8" as well.

redrill problem

geauxtorbo your going to have a problem when you go to drill out the axles because the center hole on the drum is 3.9 inches and the axle sticks out past the drum. so the lugnut hols will be rite next to the inner edge of the drum. your wheels wont sit flat on the drum because of the axle. when you get wheels for a toyota the center hole is 4 inches so it clears the axle. just barelly fits. don't now of any yards close to me that even have any tacomas sorry.
