Awesome Domelight Replacement - LED

I thought these would not be bright enough...but they are great!

6-led bulbs, I got the "spark blue" color to go with my exterior color and I love it. Low glare and a bright blue. Only $4.00 with $1.80 shipping. They are 31mm long and fit the dome and most the interior bulbs for the 3rd gen. I strongly recommend them.

Not yet, I will try to post some. DON"T get the regular Festoon bulbs...get the one that looks like an egg carton between the ends. Much better and brighter.

I would be willing to bet they would, but you need to check your current bulb length.

DavidA, Please post a link to the eBay item# you purchased. Also, I assume it would be the same bulb in the rear cargo area. It would make sense to swap out both if you are going to do it.

Here's another supplier:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...5.2166&next=50

Page down a bit and you'll find the 3022 Festoon's (these are the 21mm size). 2-LED models are $1.19 for red, $1.94 for white or green, and $2.69 for UV! 4-LED are $1.89 for red or amber, $2.84 for green or blue, and $3.84 for UV.

The LEDs that David found are 6-LED models, so these won't be as bright.

There's a flat $5 shipping, so order a BUNCH. I think I may get a couple of whites, reds and UV.

Pics

I am sorry, but the camera does not do it justice...plus I bought the Blue lights, I think the bright whites would be much brighter. However I personally like the mood of the blues.

My old Sony Digital camera just can get enough light to see it. But I promise you they are pretty nice.

Hey David;

How much dimmer would you say that the 6LED blue's are than the stock whites? for example, could you read a map with the dome?

With the blues you would be straining a little but readable. But the white one should be more than bright enough. I kept the two reading lamps above the rearview mirror as standard bulbs for that purpose, but I am replacing them also soon with LED bulbs.

Oh...I replaced the bulbs for the License plate with the inverted cone LED 194 bulbs that have an HID cool white look, I like it. Much better than the yellow light from the standard bulbs.

I Don't think so, a little dimmer. It has a cooler, whiter appearance. I have the blue bulbs so it is definitely dimmer.

I should point out one un"seen" (hah!) benefit of moving to LED lamps. They draw a LOT less current than the incandescents which means that they burn a whole lot cooler. The stock bulbs get hot enough to burn your fingers - bad. I'd bet that you'd be hardpressed to feel the LEDs giving off _any_ heat.

So the white ones aren't brighter than the stock bulbs? If they are brighter, which ones? 2, 4 or 6 led ones?

I'm also interested in swaping the dash bulbs to white led bulbs in my 2nd Gen, how many 194 and 74 ones I need more or less?

Thanks,

David

I have not purchased the white ones....Can't tell you because I have the blue ones. I would do the 6-led ones that are in a rectangle configuration. I have the blue one like this and it is much brighter than the other LED I tried.

I have no idea on the dash bulbs...but that is one of my next projects. I hope someone has the answer to it.
