Question Automatic Transmission downshifting clunk.

I am just wandering if anyone else has the same issue, here is what I have:
When I am stopping my truck in a steadily firm rate (not an emergency stop, but not an easy one either) I can hear a feel a ?clunk? that coming from the transmission area.
I think I am hearing downshifting from second to first gear. This only happens when transmission is cold, after it warms up this problem completely goes away.
Also if I am easy on the brake and slow down gradually there is no clunk, even when transmission is cold.
Other than that transmission perform flawlessly, including times when I am towing a boat trailer.

Info about my truck: 1996 4Runner 4x4, 3.4L, Auto. Truck has 102 K on it.
Transmission filter was cleaned when it had about 65K, transmission oil was changed by draining and adding around 4.5 Q every 25K.

Any thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

Probably the driveshaft splines in your tranny sticking and then breaking loose when the weight of the vehicle come down in the rear. Pretty common problem. I have a 98 4runner and mine does it. If it bothers you then take out the driveshaft and clean and lube the yoke splines.

That is the driveshaft telling you it is time to lube. Get under there and lube all 5000 zerk fittings.

Lube your driveshaft and it should go away.

Thank you for all your responses!
So you think it is a driveshaft not a transmission??

My fear was that is a transmission?I hope I was wrong.

I am hearing this clunk while truck still in motion going about 5-10 mph, what I am trying to say is that this is not a typical (for 4 Runners that needs yoke lubrication) thud that you can hear in the rear when you come to complete stop and then release your break?

Any way? I do lubricate driveshaft regularly but I will do it again, I hoping that clunk will go away.
I will keep my fingers crossed and post the results.

Thanks again!
