Question Automatic Tranny shift from 1st to 3rd to overdrive

I have a '91 4runner, and had the transmission rebuilt. I'm having a problem with it.
From a stop it goes from 1st to 3rd gear and then into overdrive when in "D". I can put it in 2, and it still shifts from 1st to 3rd, but at least it won't shift into OD until I shift it into "D". It sometimes will get over it's problem with 7 or so miles of freeway speed driving, however if I turn off the engine after that 7 miles, it goes back to that same old problem.
I've had shops put it on the diagnostic thingamajigger, and they say, "No trouble codes." I've read some stuff somewhere about this same problem, but if one the solenoids was bad wouldn't it show a trouble code??
I'm pretty much a the end of my rope with this one.
Getting ready to ditch her down in Mexico, but she's great when she shifts right. Any body ever have the same trouble? Any suggestions?
Thanks, Steve

How's the fluid level? Low fluid level cause erratic shifting when cold.
Warm the motor and trans up and while the truck is in PARK check the level. It should be in the upper range on the dipstick. Clean with a rag and reinsert for an accurate reading. Look at both sides of the stick and use the lower reading.
But could be a problem with the valve body or maybe the linkage, but I can't diagnose without looking at it.
I would take it back to the tranny place you just had it rebuilt by. They should fix it for free. If no codes, it's just means it something mechanical, not electronic.

Thanks. Ive done all that fluid checking, and taken it back to DRW Transmission Specialties in Santee, CA. Do not go there! they left all kinds of things not connected and just dangling, even broke my air resonator box. They were real idiots! they replaced what they broke, but seeing how shoddy their work was, I can see it would be pretty simple for them not to have lined something up correctly, or not at all. I guess since it was a Kragen-bought rebuilt tranny they didn't guarantee their work, so now I'm just screwed.
