Automatic Shifter Replacement??

Is there any sort of shifter handle that I can replace the stock one with? I'm kind of tired of the stock computer joystick-looking shifter. I'd love to have something like a Hurst T-handle on there.

Sorry for bringing up such an old post, but I am also in the market for a replacement shifter for the auto tranny. Preferably one that is not so tall..

Good luck with that, the wiring for the OD switch is one tough problem and the shift lock stuff is another.

You could put the shorter fatter shift nob from the 2WD automatic 4runner on in its place. Here's mine.

how did you do it?

Just the knob or the whole shaft as it attaches to the tranny?

Just the knob, it's pretty tricky to reconnect the wires for the OD (their soldered to the switch) and the screw hole attaching the knob is in a different spot so you need to drill and tap a new one (or a tek srcrew could work). I like the slightly lower height and feel. Be sure you have time and patience to do this(not a quick and easy mod) once you start there is no turning back.

Is the shift lock button stuff the same for both?

Yes they look different but only because of the knob design. It's just a swap of one complete knob assembly for the other.
