Question Auto Trans leaking?

Whats up everyone, Newbie here who just bought a '90 4runner.
I have a pretty steady leak coming from my auto trans. dripping down onto the driveshaft. It looks like it's coming from the pan attached to the bottom of the trans. Im going to try replacing the gasket between there,
I guess my question is- is this a common problem? And if anyone thinks it may be something else or have any recommendations I'd appreciate it
Thanks

While your doing it...clean the filter....very easy job. Use some right stuff to seal it....I did not change my gasket and it is not leaking...But it would be a good idea...just to lazy to go buy a new one. Don't over tighten the bolts....The fluid stick spits from the tube about 10 inches up from pan.

Mine has never leaked there, but I have had the pan off to change the filter. When you take the pan off take note of where all the little magnets are and clean them and put them back in the same locations. Or better yet look at the FSM and it shows exactly where the magnets are suppose to be. Mine didn't have a gasket just that red sealant stuff. AutoZone sells replacement ATF filters if you want to just replace it rather than cleaning it. The kit was about $20 and also had a cork gasket, but I used the Right Stuff on mine and threw away the gasket. After you get the filter, pan and magnets cleaned and refill it with ATF it will be a good time to take it in for a ATF flush too.
