Auto Shifter Stuck. Oops.
Well... crap.
My shifter knob was sticking slightly in my 98 4runner. For no good reason whatsoever, I removed the two retainer screws and tried to pull off the knob. I didn't take it all the way off because it is held in by a couple of wires (presumably hooked up to the O/D disable button). I chickened out and screwed the knob back in and now the problem is about 10X worse.
Any suggestions? It takes a lot of screwing around to shift out of park. I would think that I could just pull the lever and try to disassemble/reassemble, but I am not sure how everything goes together. Any advice would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds similar to the problem that this guy was having: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/q...omatic-121746/

When I first got mine I took apart the shifter and messed it up. The thread that TrackRunner showed you is exactly what I did to fix it... It's pretty simple, but very frustrating if you can't get it in gear.

Yeah. As TrackRunner pointed out, I'll guarantee you have the same problem I did. You'll have to pop out the plastic molding around the PRND2L to unhook the shifter cable so that you can pull the shifter handle far enough off the stick to get inside it. Once you pull it off, you'll see there's just a little white plastic head with an angle on it. Flip it around and put everything back together. It took me about 10 minutes to do once I decided to take the console apart.
