Happy Holidays Everyone!

Anybody here put a "door kit" in a 4Runner for sounddampening? I can't afford to do whole interior, but was thinking about doing the front 2 doors.

Any advice on products to use? Is it worth it? I've got resonating noises from bass in doors plus road noise.

Yah that name brand stuff is expensive....

I used Peel & Seal found in the roofing section of Lowe's.

6" x 25' roll, $9.99

You'll need 3 rolls to do both front doors.

You can do 3 layers on each door--the inside of the outer skin, the outside of the inner metal and the inside of the inner metal.

Then you can put some carpet padding in wherever you hear rattling or where the plastic door panel comes into contact with another surface. Use 3 M 77 spray adhesive for that....

Worked fine for me =)

Was it worth the work (LOL) to get rid of some noise? Did you do the floors or anywhere else, or just doors?

Thanks for the help. Did you have to heat that stuff up, or just peel and stick?

Yup I think it was worth it... there's less road noise. Door makes a nice THUMP when you close it ( you know, like a BMW or Mercedes, etc...)

I just did the doors right now.... Some people do the whole car, I'm not that anal and it is a big pain to remove all that stuff.... plus it's freezing out now hehe...

I didn't use a heat gun, some people do, some don't.... I'll let you know if the stuff falls off next summer...

I guess it depends on how loud you play your music and how powerful your speakers/amp are.... But putting sound deadening on 2 doors is not that much work really...

Thanks for the info and that link! I think I'll try it as well since you recommend it. Do your doors rattle when bass hits? Mine do, I think I'll try the carpet pad idea too like the in the link you sent.

Yah the doors rattle when the 6.5" speakers hit low frequencies/bass.... I just recently finished my install and am fine tuning it now, so I'm in the process of taking care of the details (e.g., isolating points of rattling....)

Advice? Hmm...depends, what are you planning to install?

Also, that guy in that link--he carpet padded the WHOLE door. I really don't think there is enough space in the 4Runner door to put that much carpet padding in there w/o running into trouble putting the panel back on...

I just cut little squares of carpet pad and adhesed that on different spots -- you'll see when you remove the door panel that there are a few squares of padding there already that Toyota put on.... but what I do is listen to some music, figure out where it's rattling... and put the carpet pad at that spot if possible...

Anyways, like 4FonZ said, try the roofing sheets from Lowes. They are very effective and cost WAY LESS than Dynomat does. You can also try this link: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....7&WebPage_ID=3

I am using the asphalt based sheet (32" x 54" for only $19.00) and it works great. No more vibration in the doors. The sheet comes with a sticky side that you just press onto the door making installation really easy.

For inside the door, I use the spray type damping material cause it's easier to get in there and covers better than a sheet does. Then I use minimal expanding foam (3.50 a bottle from Lowes) to seal up any holes that air might escape out of.
