ATTN: 3.0 K&N FIPK Owners,

I have a question. My 4Runner came with the FIPK on it when I got it. Is the stock airbox with the hose going to the intake tube and then to the engine needed. Mine is still there and it is being held on with a bungie cord. If the tube going into the engine is needed, could I cut it short and put on one of those little filters like they have at Autozone? Does any of this make sense to you. Maybe I will have to bust out the digi-cam. Please help to clear this one up for me.

Bust it out!! I have the FIPK, but it has been on for about 6 years. I don't even have my stock airbox anymore...

4X4Lamm,

I also have the K&N FIPK on my truck and I don't see how you could fit (or why you would want to have) both the K&N and the stock airbox in the engine compartment. Like Cebby said, get out the camera and post some pics.

By the way, how sluggish is the 3.slow with those 33s? From your tagline, it looks like your still running the 4:56 gears.

Hmmm, maybe I'm delusional, wouldn't be the first time. When the battery is charged I will post pics. BTW- the 3.0 is not too bad with 33s and stock geras. I can hit 60 in 12 seconds, hey its a big SUV, thats good. At higher speeds the 33s, flowmaster and K&N are awsome. The flowmaster made a very noticable difference at highway speeds for me. I can't smoke somebody's Eclipse, but they can't park on a big ol' pile of snow.

here are some pics, see the box (triangle, sort of), that is what I mean, it has the Toyota air cleaner element service schedule on it. This pic shows the tube that comes out form the bottem of the intake tube.

I have a flowmaster too and I love it. Gives a nice resonance right around 3K rpm. Must be the 10.5 width that lets the stock gears keeps those 33s spinning at a decent rate of speed. Probably helps so that the tires don't rub the frame rails when you make tight turns as well. Back to the K&N, part of the FIPK kit includes a rubber hose that runs from the engine valve cover (I think) and connects into the pipe that goes to your intake manifold. I can't imagine what the stock air box is doing in your setup.

OK now I see. I thought you ment the air box that contained the original Toyota air filter. I do have that box still in place. I made a bracket out of some scap piece of metal and bolted it to the inside of the fenderwell. I'll take a pic or my setup and post it tomorrow.

The 'Resonator' should have been bolted to the fender and the intake with brackets included with the kit.

Yeah, there are some brackets in ther but the plastic on the "box" is all busted, it was just held onto the plastic coolent tank with a bungie cord. What the heck does this thing do anyway. Is there a way to get rid of it? I thought it was the airbox because of the sticker on it. :pat:

What he said. Get another resonator from a junkyard if yours is busted up. Can't be more than a couple of bucks.
