Had to laugh at the guy asking about the condition of the seats, I'm sure the driver's one needs a little cleaning

Like Kevin444 said, don't drive tired. Its so easy to fall asleep at the wheel.

I fell asleep driving, woke up with the pass side in the ditch (I was purposely driving on a two lane road thinking the extra stimuli would keep me awak), managed to pull it back onto the road without losing control (was doing about 60mph)-I thought the adrenalin would keep me awake for a few miles until I could stop, it didn't, withing two minutes my head started dropping again. I had to stop the car and get out and run around twice in the 8 miles it took to get to a good place to stop.

I wasn't driving the truck back then, if I was I'm sure it would have flipped given the steepness of the ditch and my speed.

Sleep in the car if you have too (when its parked) but don't drive tired.

My dad fell asleep as well in his 1999 4Runner and he and my little sister came out ok. The only thing wrong with my dad was that he had a broken collarbone due to the seatbelt holding so well, which I thought was amazing. I know they're meant for that in theory, but sometimes things like that done prove well in reality.

Anyway, he has sworn to have a 4Runner of some sort until the day he dies because he swears that if it had been ANY other car, he wouldn't be here today. I'm not saying there aren't other well-built cars out there, but for our particular case, there wasn't.

This is why the more recent vehicles have rear seatbelts with shoulder straps. There are documented cases of people who have come out of car accidents as parapalegics because of the tremendous strain that the simple lap belt put on their spine. Of course, the alternative would have been a flight out the windshield and most likely death...

A recent study shows that the 4runner is one of 2 of the safest vehicles on the road
