ARB Air Lockers w/ center diff...

If you install front and rear ARB Air Lockers on a 2002 4runner. Does that nullify the center diff lock for good or can you still use the center diff when not using the front and rear lockers?

and do all the traction aides still work when the ARB air lockers are off?

...and are ARB air lockers good in winter/cold climates? (we're talking -20 to -30 below)

1. The lockers do not nullify the center diff. I assume you have the multi-mode 4WD system my '01 Limited has. When you push the button the 4Runner is in All-Wheel Drive. When you depress the Center Diff Lock Button then you are in true 4WD. I won't engage my locker(s) until I have attempted something, unsuccessfully, with 4WD Low/Center Diff Locked. So to answer your question; yes, you can use the center diff lock button wiothout the lockers engaged. I have had that very set-up for over 2 years now.

2. All my traction control aids work just fine.

3. Are you concerned about how the ARBs are affected by the temps or snowy/icy road conditions?

You can PM Darren if want to talk to someone who has dual ARBs in a 2002 4Runner.

The way the center diff works is totally independant of the front or rear diffs., so there are no issues have ARB's.

The way the system works is similar to the axles, but with the drive shafts. The center diff acts like another locker one mode locks the front and rear drive shafts, so both turn equally, the other mode the power can go to either front or rear drive shafts. Then the computer takes over and uses the brake system to compensate for not having F&R diff locks, this system can be disabled for offroad use.....

thanks guys.

Bighead you answered my question exactly. I just wanted to make sure I could still use the all wheel drive w' center diff...and then if those fail, go to the ARB air lockers.

and the winter/cold bit...its more a question of are they going to work fine and not freeze up (compressor/air lines/diff) in very cold days? Not worried about how they will work but "if" they will work and not freeze or act up???
