Anyone use BK 44?
I think I have the name right... BK 44. The fuel additive? Got my 4runner at the shop right now gettin some bils put on and asked the guy about the product. He says... to really use the product to its fullest, add it each of the next 3 times you fill up. After that, add it about every 5000 miles.
Does this stuff work? Is his diagnosis correct?
I have 165K miles on my 89 4run.
Thanks,
Rob

Yes, it works great. I have been using is since '99.
But to put it in the next 3 fillups is to much $$$ at $20 per can.
What you can do is the Gadget prefered fuel system cleaner.
Snap On makes a machine called the Motor Vac.
Other outfits make them too with different names.
Find a carb/injector shop in your area to see if they do it.
Runs about $125.
They run your rig on this solution for awhile and it cleans the injectors and the upper engine inside getting rid of carbon build-up.
Carbon build-up can raise your compression raitio thus making your engine detonate & ping easier.
Currently I am using Amsoil injector cleaner that comes in a one gallon bottle.
I use 4 oz of it about once a month in the tank at fill up time.

Its very good but there is cheaper stuff out there that does as much and is some cases, more. However, it always unwise to overlook a Gadget recomendations as he does his homework !
Check the BG products web site.
Other products such as Pennzoil Regain are able to make more claims such as Combustion chamber clean up and back it with data.
As for the $125 deal...if you use a cleaner as often as Corey does, you will NEVER need the expensive clean up. Do it whenever you do your oil...
I will post a list of the top tier of aftermarket fuel treatments and you can make up your own minds based on cost and availibility.
Just a little anecdotal evidence. A bud of mine's minivan was acting up and driving very poorly. We were at a soccer tourney 400 miles from Virginia. I found him some Regain and we added a whole bottle to an empty tank and then another whole bottle to a partially full tank. The vehicle was running fine by time we got halfway home. He now uses it every 3000 miles. His neighbour with the same make and model van, just dropped a hair under $500 to have his injectors cleaned as his car was doing exactly the same as my buds. He does not and has never used a cleaner

Hey Rob.
Like Corey said. Do the injector cleaner to the fuel rail.
A friend did this to my '97 4runner and my '94 Honda.
He disconnected the fuel line going to the fuel rail and ran a big can of solvent. The 4runner did a lot of sputtering and ran real rough.
Once the can was empty we put everything back together and started her back up.
She ran rough just for a minute but then started purring.
I didn't notice anything on my 4runner for it only had 50,000 miles at the time.
But on my Honda which had 125,000 miles it was a big difference.
My Honda ran so nice after and my MPG went up
