here are some more timing kits,oem or aisin is the best option but if funds are limited the one with the gmb water pump is the most reliable replacement.
new old stock parts (NOS) can bring surprises like cracked belts (dryout belts) dry bearings and so on it all depends where the parts are stored is not common but it can happen

My first post, but I've been lurking around this site for awhile. I recently purchased a 1998 4runner limited silver. I've been wanting to start my own thread but haven't had time, but working on my truck with the help of this site has been invaluable.

Anyway, I did order that same exact timing belt kit from aircabinman. I decided I wanted to spend the extra $100 for all toyota parts. It arrived fast, i think 5 days and on time, which was crucial to me. Everything was well packed. I was a little concerned about the waterpump, when i was reseaching I saw 2 different types, but the one i received was the correct one.

I was thinking about doing the job myself.... but I'm glad I got help. I think I could have done everything except removing the crank pulley bolt. If you're doing the job get a new crank pulley bolt (90105-16031) before hand. Silly me I went to Toyota the day of assuming they would have it, no. It would have taken a few days, so I just took a chance and reused it.

Removing the crank pulley bolt.... my buddy tried an impact, nothing. he heated it up with a torch for 20 seconds, and it came right off with the impact. I think I would have been stuck there for days. I read people making special tools and such. Also make sure you clean the gunk and stuff from around the water pump well.

My buddy and I, he did most of the work, finished in about 5 hours. Wasn't too bad, except the crank pulley bolt and then trying to get the tensioner thing back in... you can hardly see the bolts. We left both the AC and power steering on.

I can't think of anything else. I'm fortunate that alot of people have posted there experiences doing the job on the internet. I wanted to take pictures as we progressed but I didn't have time.

I've driven about 1000 miles and everything is ok.

So I guess I would recommend it.

I used that exact set on my 97 4Runner, and so far so good. There was a sticker on the motor that said the TB was changed at 60,000 miles, so I was doing this at 160,000 miles.

The day after I finished installing the set, I towed 700 miles to Ouray, CO, went trail riding for four days, fishing for three days and went 700 miles home, towing a teardrop camper !! No prroblems at all !
