Anybody running a straight pipe from the cat back? (3.4L)
Guys, my glasspack has developed a hot spot (discoloration in one spot), so I want to hack it out and go to something different. Yes, I like loud. Don't ask me why, I just do. So I am thinking about welding in a straight pipe where the glasspack used to reside.
I know this is going to be very loud...but how loud? I need to know if anyone out there has taken this route, and what they think. For example, if you have done this, at what RPM does it just drive you nuts, and what RPM does it sound the best? Do neighbor's chase you with garden utensils as you drive through the neighborhood? Things like that
Better yet, since I doubt many people have a straight pipe cat back, has anyone temporarily taken off their muffler and ran to the shop that way? Tell me more about it. How was the power increase?
My other thought is to hack out the glasspack before I go to the welder and listen to the rig. I figure that way I could go and buy a flowmaster or magnaflow and bring it with me in case the sound is just overwhelming. I plan on retaining the stock 2.25" pipe size.

All I know is that I am glad I am not your neighbor!! Looks like you go to work early, and I know that your Accord is muffler-less, imagine that x2 at 5:00 am!!

Careful you don't get any tickets for excessive noise with your new setup.
Why don't you just run a set of drag pipes through the hood and forget the exhaust altogether.

I'm pretty sure it would sound like crap. I've ran mine with open headers for a day and it sounded terrible. I always thought straight piped rigs sounded like someone gargling a load of ***. You'd probably get tired of it by the time you drove to the muffler shop. This must be those ricer roots showing through.

Dude, you got that dead on! We are actually pulling out the neighborhood around 5:20AM to be exact. Good point, and good memory!Jamie-
Good point also. Carefree, just north of us, has a strict "noise pollution" regulation in place; thanks to all the Harley's that go up there every weekend I guess.

Oh and just a reminder, I do not want to go "catless," I want to go straight pipe from the cat back. I don't think it would sound ricey, but probably it would sound "raw." I think the best route to take is a magnaflow (loud version) and call it a day.
How about a 14" magnaflow offest w/2.25" inlet/outlet? Does that sound about right?

From what I have heard I think a Magnaflow would be your best choice sound-wise.
....and dang 5:20AM!!! You must still see coyotes going through people's trash at that time of day.

If you want the loudest setup go with the shortest Magnaflow. If you currently have a straight thru glass pack I would think you would want the center inlet/center outlet Magnaflow. Now get that cutting torch out
and post us a WAV file to listen to!

I droped my cat for a cherry bomb (kinda a legal looking strait pipe) and ran it into a flowmaster 40 serires. That was very loud, people could hear me comming from miles away. Never got harassed the police about it.

my friend has a flowmaster 40 series with dual exhaust on his T100 with the 3.4, that thing sounds great too... it's very loud though but I'm thinking you'd like it =p
he lives 1/4th mile down the street around the corner, this neighborhood is full of trees and everything, if I'm outside I can hear him fire it up and drive away.
