Any more parts needed for intake plenum removal?
Hey all,
I've got this list of stuff I need to buy to get my intake plenum removed. I'm going to be replacing my knock sensor and PCV valve while I'm at it. Are there any other parts or gaskets I need other than these?
Knock sensor
Plenum gasket
PCV gromett
PCV valve
(2) Cold start injector supply tube gaskets (aka small EFI gaskets)
Just wanted to make sure. I'll be doing this next weekend and didn't want to have to order parts half way through. Would not be fun.
Thanks, have fun.

BTW, forgot to ask my other question. How much coolant will I have to drain from the radiator? Are there any fuel lines going into the TB or anywhere else on the intake plenum other than the cold start injector?
Thanks again. Have fun.

I'm going to go ahead and order the above parts. Hope there was nothing else to get.
Does anybody know how much coolant to drain?
Have fun.

If your going to replace your knock sensor, you need the following ALSO:
(2) Intake gaskets
Intake Sensor manifold gasket (rear of intake)
(8) EFI Fuel Rail Gaskets
Knock Sensor Wire
Youll need to drain the coolant fully.

Thanks again. That's a great idea. I think I'll do that (if I have any $$ left after getting intake gaskets) The local dealer wanted $57.62 each for the intake gaskets! That blew me out of the chair! Didn't make sense though as the parts store wanted $8.99 each. The parts store was a bit confused between the plenum gasket and the intake gasket though. Maybe I'll double check on that.
The guy at the dealer wasn't too sure what the Intake sensor manifold gasket was. Is there a different term for this?
One more question : Is it harder to remove the intake manifold than the plenum? The plenum scares me as it is, so hopefully not.
Maybe I'll do a write up and pics while I'm at it. I know I could use one about now!
Thanks again. Have fun.

Well... yes the intake gaskets are quiet expensive. I would not trust the 8.99 ones. The toyota ones are purdy.
And yes, the intake is probably alot more difficult to remove then the plenum. I definitally recommend the factory repair manuals to assist you through the process. Part of the job includes releasing the tension on the timing belt.
The Coolant Sensor Manifold is what I meant. Its on the back of the intake manifold, near the firewall. It has 4 or 5 different types of sensors in it. the gasket is shaped somewhat like a "D". It is something I bet any Toyota Mechanic would have in there toolbox if they were involved in any of the headgasket recall repairs.

Thanks again Jay. I really appreciate your help here.
I ordered all the above parts. Auto store had a kit that had the intake manifold and plenum gaskets together. It was $91. I will give it a try. Hopefully it's the right thing.
I went to the dealer to get the coolant sensor manifold. They didn't know what that was. The only thing they could come up with was a small o-ring that had the same part number as the o-rings for the 8 EFI Fuel Rail Gaskets. It went around one of the sensors. I think it's the wrong part though. I dunno.
Well, thanks again.
Have fun.

Some pics would be great! Hope that's not asking too much though. You've already helped me out tremendously.
Thanks, have fun.

For the life of me, I cant understand why they could not understand what you need. The bloody thing is on the very back of the intake manifold. It has about 5 sensors on it. It also has a heater hose routed to it, along with a smaller hose that routes to the tubing that travel in the valley beneath the intake. The gasket that holds this (My terminology I suppose) Coolant Sensor manifold, is shaped like a "D". It is black, and has a bead of dryed sealant already applied.
Jay
P.S. Sorry, no pics. My brain goes into work mode once I arrive. Its a terrible thing.

Thanks again Jay. I'll swing by on Monday and give them that discription. They should know what that is (hopefully).

That was a great discription! They found the part I need (at least it seems to be)! I think they called it a_________ water bypass valve or something like that.
Now, I've just got to find the time to do it.
Turns out that fuel injector cleaning is just the flush. They don't do the ultra sound cleaning there. Bummer. I though that was an awesome deal. oh well.
Thanks again. Have fun.
