Any 1st Gen bobbed top Articles?

I have been thinking about this project for a while, and I think the perfect donor 85 4runner has become available locally. What I want to end up with is a 4runner with a little box on the back. I thought if the top was shortened I could move the rear window to right behind the rear seat (and build a little bulkhead to connect to the floor). I guess all I'm really looking for is an article that someone has written about bobbing the top of a 1st gen to get a general idea of some good practices, etc.

Does anyone have an idea what the measurement from the rear seat to the inside of the tailgate is on 1st gen runners?

Lots of people on pirate4x4 have bobbed 1st gen 4Runners. Do some searching and you will find many threads. Here's one to get you started: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94756

actually that doesnt sound like what he wants to do... what it sounds liek he wants to do is jsut chop section off part of the roof and recreate a new rear wall/bulkhead while using the old tailgate, sans glass for the bed's tailgate..... this is the runner from that pirate thread with a photoshop of what im talking about.... the pirate writeup does have info on sectioning the roof though... like an chevy avalanche really....

I can't remember what his user name is, but there is a guy here who has done it on his 4Runner. He posted in the off-topic section about his buddy who had a bobbed Jeep Cherokee and is working on another project. If I get time I will repost his user name and maybe you can PM him.

edit: his user name is 4Hummer.

That's Mike's truck: Chopped 4Runner

You would think it would be easier on a first gen, with the top not being part of the structure.

That's exactly what I'm interested in doing. Does anyone have the measurement from the back of the rear seat to the inside of the tailgate?
